Behind the Scenes | Limestone Rock
July 26, 2018
Pulling back the curtain to provide a little bit of insight into one of my favorite photo props - limestone rock.
.
We've had limestone rocks inside & outside of our house for years. It lines many of our flower beds. It lines one of our vegetable gardens (yes, we've got three). We've embedded them in the grass & gardens for paths. We love them!

I even have one in my studio that I use as a door stop. Which is how this intriguing prop came to be a big part of Livvie + Hazel. During last winter, I knew my jewelry needed to grow & evolve. As I'm taking time to contemplate the direction I wanted to take, my eyes gravitated to this limestone door stop. Things seemed to click.
.
Limestone is one of the most popular rocks in Kansas. It's specifically found in the Kansas Flint Hills. So much so that it's been used in Kansas for fence posts, signs and even buildings. Limestone blends into our world naturally.
.
Limestone's spiritual meaning is that it encourages positive thoughts. It's also an "assisting" stone which means it enhances the power & benefits of other stones & gems surrounding it. I love that!

In most of our photos, you'll see 1 or several of the 5 limestone rocks we have. Since I like them to be as white as possible, I will clean each rock using a pea gravel/soap mixture then set them in the sun for a while to bleach a little.
.
Have you used limestone in your home, decor, gardens? I'd love to hear!
